dredifer: if you can opt out of your debt consoldation do it.. open a savings acct and put in all the money tht you pay to them and change your direct dep to put tht ammt in a savings acct.. then negotiate your debts on your own.. you will save a lot of money.. a debt collector will settle out an acct at the same ammout whether there dealing with you or a rep.. trust me this is what i do for a living!!!  01/03/2010 23:19
JenATonic02: I agree with theresa on the debt consolidation. Do it yourself! If you try going through a debt consolidation company, all they do is basically charge you a fee for saving your money. They don't pay off your bills first, they wait until you have paid them what you owe your creditors and their fee before they pay your debts. It is a true waste of money! As for smoking, I quit smoking with Chantix (smoked for 8 years) and my step dad quit after 25 years with it. It is kinda pricey if your health insurance won't cover any of it, but it is just pennies compared to what you have spent so far on smoking!!  14/02/2010 11:07

piggybank: I don't have a credit card gave that up in favour of a debit card, so you have to use your own money, in other words, basically you need the money in the first place to use the card, because if you don't have it in the account, you can't buy. Also give up smoking, its just money going up in smoke, why do people like putting those poisonous things in their mouths for, that are only going to contribute to serious health problems.  26/10/2009 07:10

Go to daveramsey.com and read about his "debt snowball" for getting out of debt. Don't mess with consolidation plans, take each debt individually and work at it according to the snowball idea.  07/09/2009 02:29

Look at how much you spend on cigarettes, then take out your Health Insurance info and check to see if they cover cancer treatment, many don't, add your monthly cigarette cost to the 250000.00 a month in cancer treatment, once I looked at that and realized my habit was forcing me to budget for my death I quit. Next where Debt Consolidation is concerned look at your credit report and who you owe the money to. The collection agencies bought your debt for 10% of the actual debt. Contact the collection agencies and offer them 15% Basically negotiate most of them just want to get paid. it shoudl lower it considerably.
