Til Debt Do Us Part and Suzie Orman. Also, have you called your credit card company to try to negotiate down your rates? You could ask for a debt paydown arrangement on one card and they'll close it but might re-open it when you are paid off. They typically credit you a big chunk of the interest you have paid and stop adding on late fees and more interest. You can't use the card though but it will give you a chance to catch up. The credit card companies have a lot of plans to help people that are about to crash and burn financially. Do it yourself! If you try going through a debt consolidation company, all they do is basically charge you a fee for saving your money. They don't pay off your bills first, they wait until you have paid them what you owe your creditors and their fee before they pay your debts. It is a true waste of money! As for smoking, I quit smoking with Chantix (smoked for 8 years) and my step dad quit after 25 years with it. theresa: pay as much as u can to your debt cons. save $100 for yourself first $50 every pay check. Automatic decuctions are great for that. Go to daveramsey.com and read about his "debt snowball" for getting out of debt. Don't mess with consolidation plans, take each debt individually and work at it according to the snowball idea. 07/09/2009 02:29 jamieboy: credit cards are great for building credit up , use it allot the more you use it the better your credit BUT I would always make sure to pay back what i used in the month. Look at how much you spend on cigarettes, then take out your Health Insurance info and check to see if they cover cancer treatment, many don't, add your monthly cigarette cost to the 250000.00 a month in cancer treatment, once I looked at that and realized my habit was forcing me to budget for my death I quit. Next where Debt Consolidation is concerned look at your credit report and who you owe the money to. The collection agencies bought your debt for 10% of the actual debt. Contact the collection agencies and offer them 15% Basically negotiate most of them just want to get paid. it shoudl lower it considerably.
